These locked
mule deer bucks were
found a couple of months too late. The Utah Division of Wildlife
Resources granted the landowner where the bucks were found special
permission to possess and mount these bucks. The
five point buck was approaching his prime years and the older buck
was past his prime (his antlers were huge and spiney at the base, yet
under developed on outward). The way these bucks
locked together was extremely unusual. It appears that the
five point ran
up from behind the older buck locking antlers, but of course
this is only a guess. As a taxidermist, this piece presented a
great challenge in recreating the Tragic Tale.
